CREATING COMIC PANELS

-For this unit we will create a comic, you will have to:

  1. Create a set of panels
  2. Create a story
  3. Draw in the panels your story (with text if you want)
  4. Print your comic

-We will start by creating one single panel.
-To start we will create a new document, make it the size of height 1024 pixels and width 720 pixels

-Create a new folder and call it A1 (this is the panel).
-Inside the folder create a new folder(call it A1Mask) and a new layer(call it A1Area)
-Inside A1Mask create a layer and caller A1Draw.
-It should look like this:

- A1 is the Panel,
- A1Draw is where we draw our comic.
- A1Area is the shape of our panel
- A1Mask is what keeps your drawing inside the panel area (A1Area).

-Now that we have our layers and folders setup we can start.
-Select the A1Area layer and create a black rectangle not too big, the size of a comic panel.

  • Select the Marquee tool (M)
  • Create a selection in the shape of the panel
  • Fill the selection with black
-With the selection of the black area "active" select the A1Mask folder.
-Press the "Add layer mask" that is at the bottom of the layers.

- This will create a mask that will keep your drawing inside the black area.
- But the are is black so we have to make it transparent.
- Select A1Area and use the fill bar and set it to zero(0), this will make the area transparent.

-But we need a frame around the area we will draw,
- Right Click on the A1Area layer and select "Blending Options.."
- This will bring a window, check the box "Stroke" and press OK
- Thats it!! you can now draw in the A1Draw layer and it will stay inside the panel.
- To create more panes duplicate the A1 folder and rename the A1 to A2 or A3 etc.
